Post subject: gmat prep practice test
Post Posted: Sun Jan 11, 2009 5:44 pm
hey,

i've just done the official gmat prep practice test. i scored 29/37 in the quantitive section, and 31/41 in the verbal section, resulting in a score of 710!?
is it really possibly to score 710 with that many wrong answers? or is there something wrong with my prep software?

thanks in advance!

thomas

That is exactly how the test works! You will get a lot of questions wrong no matter what level you score (well, unless you're really at the very top). (And nice job, by the way.)

The primary measure of your performance on the test is NOT the number you get right vs. wrong. The primary measure is the difficulty level of the questions you're answering.

It's actually really important to know this, because if you take the test thinking that you have to get 90 or 95% of the questions right, you're going to hang onto questions that are too hard for you, and then run out of time at the end, and then your score is going to go down. You WILL be given questions that you can't do, no matter how good you get. The goal is to get those wrong in 2 minutes rather than 3 or 4. :)
