I have taken GMAT twice with a score of 620 the first time( Quant 38%ile, verbal 92%ile) and 650 the second time (Quant 70%ile and Verbal 74%ile).

I have 8 years workex in Inida in the fields of corp. strategy and business development. I also have a prior PGDBM (considered equiv to an MBA in India ) with marketing specialisation. I had a 3.7 GPA in the PGDBM program and a 2.9 in previous undergraduate program in Economics fm Delhi University.

The reason i want to do an MBA again is to get into Finance field esp. PE/VC.

With my scores and profile what is the possibility of getting into full time MBA at Stern/Cornell/Columbai? Should i look at them at all or just go for EMBA ?

MBA programs and EMBA programs are quite different – the students are different and the experiences (two years of dedicated study vs. several years of part time study) are different. So, you might want to consider which one is better for you, according to your professional needs. That written, to my knowledge, I am only familiar with a handful of cases across all schools over a period of many years, wherein those who already have MBAs from Indian schools have gotten into top-U.S. programs. In fact, I know of one school – Haas – that quite literally “can’t” accept a student with an MBA and others that have not done so in years. Don’t let me derail your dreams – do your homework. Still, I would imagine that an EMBA would be more open-minded about your candidacy.

Two things.

1. EMBA will have little value for someone who wants to network or establish a change in career. Most, if not all of EMBA programs do not have much of a career service like traditional MBA programs, since most EMBA students are either sponsored by their current employer or are in training to work in a higher level position.

2. As for your desire to enter PE/VC field? In what capacity? The financial sector is completely being re-established. PE jobs will be even more difficult to obtain since most of their leveraging strategies will cost more to implement.

If finance (PE) is a career you want to go into, to , personally, I would not begin a career in the US at this time. It will take too long for a person who already has 8 years of work experience.
