For each order, a mail-order bookseller charges a fixed processing fee and an additional fee for each book in the order. Rajeev placed five different orders with this bookseller- an order for 1 book in January, an order for 2 books in February, an order for 3 books in March, an order for 4 books in April, an order for 5 books in May. What was the total of Rajeev's processing and shipping fees for these five orders?

1)Rajeev's processing and shipping fees were $1.00 more for his order in March than for his order in January.

2) The total of Rajeev's shipping fees for the five orders was $7,50.

Can anybody explain how to solve. Seems simple but got wrong.

Let f be processing fee per order and x $ as shipping charge per book.
So Total charge for Rajiv's order is 5f+15x (jan to may)

Statement 1.
Charge for Jan = f+ x
Charge for March = f+ 3x

Difference is 2x = 1$
x= 0.5$

Statement 2.

Total shipping charge is 5x+4x+3x+2x+1x= 15x
15x=7.5$
x=0.5$

Combining both all we get is shipping charges per book. Still couldnt find f.
hence ans (E)

hi -

are you sure you copied all words of the prompt?

your prompt just says "a fixed processing fee and an additional fee for each book" - i.e., no mention of "shipping fees" at all. but then, the question and the statements address "shipping fees".

is the prompt supposed to say "a fixed processing fee and an additional shipping fee for each book"?
