Five pieces of wood have an average (arithmetic mean) length of 124 centimeters and a median length of 140 centimeters. What is the maximum possible length, in centimeters, of the shortest piece of wood?

a) 90
b) 100

I would go with B

Sum of the five pieces of wood would be 620 centimeters
if median length is 140 centimeters, maximum possible length of the shortest piece of wood would be 100.
100,100,140,140,140 total 620

I am not sure if its helpful or correct, however, I tried :) lets wait for an expert's answer

total wt = 620

x + y + 140 + 140 + 140 = 620 ...for having the intial as max the later shud be minimum..


therefore >> x + y = 200

thus max possible = 100
