Question is from MGMAT CAT #2

Fedora Convertibles began selling the Freewheeler – its newest convertible sports car – in May of this year. Fedora sent out a press release last month indicating that the Freewheeler’s sales for May, June, July, and August totaled over 50,000. As a result, Fedora will in all likelihood easily meet its stated sales goal of 120,000 for Freewheeler's first year of release.

Which of the following would be most useful in order to evaluate this prediction?

1. Fedora is the market leader in this category of automobile.
2. Freewheeler is significantly more expensive than similar models produced by Fedora’s competitors.
3. Fedora released a similar model in May of the previous year.
4. Sales of similar models of cars are typically much higher in the summer months than at any other time of the year.
5. Freewheeler sales are important to meeting the sales goals of Fedora as a company.

Highlight the below morphed text for my queries (contains OA).
I remain unsatisfied with the the Official Answer (Option 4).

Option 4 states that sales in subsequent months would be lower than 50,000/4 cars per month. But to reach the 120K target figure, sales anyhow require to be less than that average (needs to be 70,000/8 per month). So even if sales are lower in the coming months, the target can be achieved.
So how do we say this option is the correct answer.

Its D.Pretty straightforward..

1. Question states that among the following options, state which option will help in evaluating the argument.

Stimulus facts: May,June,July,August provided strong sales of 50000 cars.

Stimulus Conclusion:Based on the evidence stated above, the argument claims that car will surely reach its target of 120000 sales by the end of next May(that is a 1 year period). "all likelihood easily meet" is the phrase clincher here. How can one generalize that 70000 cars will be sold since the first four months gave a strong sale. Probably the sales were strong initially since it was a new car and the public pretty curious to buy because of solid advertisements or probably the company has a good past reputation. It may so happen that the company is able to sell only 1 car each in the coming 8 months due to various other drawbacks.

Choice D explains just that..It states that public usually go on a buying spree in summer months. But later they may not be so interested in buying the car at all or may be few.

You can use a YES/NO approach to each answer choice. YES:This does make the claim stronger. NO:This does make the claim stronger. But all in all it helps in evaluating the argument with pros and cons.

In this case,for choice D
YES: It does make the argument weaker stating that Fedora wont achieve its target.
NO:The argument may become slightly stronger by claiming that the fedora will achieve its target. In this case we are removing any alternate causes of a sales dip.
