Even Divisors: MGMAT-Number Properties Lingo....

Hello Forum Admins,

I was going through the OG-11 solution set, and came across this question:

If n=4p, where p is a prime number greater than 2, how many different positive even divisors does n have, including n?

A 2
B 3
C 4
D 6
E 8

The answer is C, but I counted D (1,2,p,2p,4p(n),4)

I got a bit confused between "even divisors" and "divides evenly". Now MGMAT Number Properties book suggests that any number which does not leave a remainder is known to "divide evenly". So then is "Even divisor" different than "Divide Evenly" ?

yes, they are different.

the adjective "even" unambiguously signifies an even number.
the adverb "evenly" NEVER signifies an even number.

the above are UNIVERSALLY true in ANY mathematics written in the english language, so you would do well to learn them.

therefore, "even divisor" means an even number that happens to be a divisor of 4p. because p must be odd (all primes greater than 2 are odd), 1 and p don't count in the tally.
