I have the same question for the the questions from 13 to 15, and is under one main question, hence using 1 post to ask a question.

Q13. x to the power of 7 + x to the power of -7

Q14. x to the power of 1/4 + x to the power of 1/2

Q15. X to the power of 1/3 + x to the power of 0 + x to the power of 5

I just wanted to know if the word "can" means a "possibility" or does it mean "must".

The explanation for the questions indicate that numbers with perfect squares and and cubes were plugged in, however, I thought I could plug-in ANY number to answer the questions.

Q13. x to the power of 7 + x to the power of -7

Q14. x to the power of 1/4 + x to the power of 1/2

Q15. X to the power of 1/3 + x to the power of 0 + x to the power of 5

"can" means "possibility"

as for plugging in numbers, sometimes any number will work, sometimes there are better numbers than others to plug in, and sometimes plugging in numbers is the worst thing you can do. it depends very much on the situation, so you should avoid thinking up any general rules for this sort of thing..
