Hi,
Currently I use the following strategy for verbal when iam short of time.
I make educated guesses/random guesses on CR questions when iam short of time.The reasons are:
1)Random guessing on a CR question saves you 2mins straight
2)Guessing on RC can be costly as i think gmat gives more imp to rc.Alo,after going through a passage for 3-4 mins,it does not make any sense to guess on questions as one is already aware of passage content.
3)Sc is my srength and dont want to guess on that as it takes <=1 min and is my strength area.
Is my strategy correct or does gmat prefer even number of mistakes in each section.

The foll is the data from my cats.numbers given indicate total number of mistakes.
Cat 1:RC=2,sc=2,cr=7 total verbal score=40
cat2 :rc=1 sc=3,cr=3 35
cat 3:rc=0,sc=2.cr=2 35
cat4:rc=0,sc=0,cr=6 35
cat 5 rc=2,sc=2.cr=2 41
please help me out qucikly as my exam is on feb7

adhithya2007, let me start by saying this is the most insulting post i have ever seen directed to the instructors on our forum. your use of this free service is contingent on your acceptance of the fact that we answer questions in the order they come in, and that unless you are paying for tutoring services you can have no expectation that your questions will be answered in a time frame that is preferable to you. in fact, the only control you have over the time it takes us to respond to your questions is how frequently you reply to your own post, because each time you do that it pushes your question to the very back of the line. that said, your question has now come up in the queue and i will answer it below:

first, your strategy to guess on CR when you need to guess is appropriate because of the complexity of those questions. note that the GMAT does NOT place more importance on RC than CR, but your observation regarding the up front investment in understanding the passage is right on the mark..

this of course should be your strategy on test day if you discover you are falling behind on time. your best course of action over the next few days before your test is to work on your timing so you can minimize the number of times you have to guess on the actual test. good luck with the test!

well,this gmat atempt is a make or break one for me beacuse i dont think it would be financially possible for me to give it again.hence,i want to get everything right going before the test day.I think that pressure made me a bit rude
