DS x+y>1?

Q: Is x+y > 1?

1) x < 8/9

2) y < 1/8


I wound up doing tedious math to get this answer, but I would think that there would be a much quicker way to solve. Any suggestions? Please dont just post your answer to get your posts up on the site.
