Not so sure..
But E seems to be better due to usage of infinitive..
In C..
instead of facing -- doesn't seem right as we do not use instead of Verb+ing

Ron please comment

C: Retiring early instead of facing should be grammatically correct, i think. Both verb+ing are gerunds; "instead of" functions properly with nouns, and gerunds are noun clauses.

E: Also, "to retire early rather than (to) face" should be correct and convey the same meaning as in option C.

Any assistance please: "Rather than" Vs "Instead of"

Joe, unfortunately you posted a question from the a banned source, the Verbal Review which is published by the GMAT test makers so I had to delete this question. We are not allowed to have such questions on the forum. Please review to the forum rules and if you are a student of ours please ask your instructor about this problem before or after class or during office hours.

Thank you,
