I just received my writing score and I got a 5.5. Somehow I am actually disappointed because the first time I took the test I got a 6.0 and I felt I actually wrote better essays the second time. I figure a lot of it has to do with the fact that a human grades the essays and so there must be just some luck involved with what grader you end up getting, the mood they are in, etc.
Anyways, 5.5 is probably good enough and the schools will see that I had a 6.0 on the first go around right?

Yes there is definitely some subjectivity going on.
The schools will not look negatively at a 5.5 at all. Anything 5.0 and up, they just check off a box ("meets the standard!") and move on to other parts of your app.
So don't worry about it at all!
