data sufficiency ratio questions

I can't find where in the word translations book it mentions tips for ratio data sufficiency questions. in general when dealing with a ratio what are the tips for handling a DS question?

i'm going to take the easy way out and say it's pretty much like dealing with problem solving, just with the usual extra caution you would give DS. it would really help if you could give an example of such a problem..
