AWA - Issue Topic on online lab

For the online lab on AWA, the issue example:
"Schools should not..."
Can my take (if I chose "against") be:
"Should not" is too strong of a term, as it is impossible to not teach any specialized info & techniques and be able to teach transferrable or general skills.
A way to improve would be "scaling back" on the teaching of specilized info & techniques.

Is this valid?

Yes, I think that is valid. On the issue essay, one of the instructions given is to define the terms, so objecting to the strength of the assertion is within that realm.

Also, for/against don't have to be polar opposites. For example, you don't need to argue that "schools SHOULD do X," it would be fine to argue that "schools CAN do x."
