could you post the whole question with the multiple choices ?

seems its comparing two actions

A) The book was banned in the US
B) Two subsequent books were banned in the US

So in this case equals = banned in the US.

not 100% sure but i think they are the same

Sorry, my question is, these two sentence express the same meaning? The first book was banned, the subsequent books were banned as well?

The book was banned in the US, as were two subsequent books.
A> as were
B> so were

here, since the comma before the second sentence, we choose "as were?" right?

correct.

notice that no SC problem will ever contain two sentences, so you really don't have to worry about what should happen if there's a period in the middle. (however, a semicolon performs essentially the same function, so you will want to know what's acceptable there, as well.)

if you replace the comma with a semicolon, then (b) is the way to go.
