As everybody before you, you're going to die and thanks to modern medicine and health practices, you'll probably live much longer as your ancestors did. B. Like everybody before you, you're going to die but thanks to modern medicine and health practices, you'll probably live much longer than your ancestors. C. As everybody before you has done, you're going to die and despite modern medicine and health practices, you'll probably live much longer than your ancestors did. D. Like everybody before you, you're going to die for thanks to modern medicine and health practices, you'll probably live much longer than your ancestors do. E. IMO E
E. Like everybody before you, you're going to die but thanks to modern medicine and health practices, you'll probably live much longer than your ancestors did.
Here like compares two nouns, i.e. everybody & you
So we could say that - like everybody, you ......
Hope this helps.

"Like" is used to compare nouns: This team is like last year's team. "As" is used to compare clauses, which include a noun and a verb in a tense: I ran very fast, as did my brother. See this thread: like-vs-as-t1517.html

"everybody before you" is noun , i think we can ignore "before you" to make it clear
Like everybody , you are going to die but( contrast) thanks to modern medicine and health practices, you'll probably live much longer than your ancestors did( lived ).
Like , but , did ... E

Yes, "everybody" is compared to "you" with the word "like".

Is B incorrect because the two sides of "than" must be parallel?.

nileshdalvimumbai wrote: Is B incorrect because the two sides of "than" must be parallel?. Correct! B is incorrect because we have an incorrect comparison. We need to say: You are going to live[/b] longer than your ancestors did(did stands in for "are going to live"). Otherwise the comparison is not parallel.
