If, in fact, you're right, then we should be able to replace "that" with "the 1942 film 'Reap the Wild Wind.'" Let's try it: William Pereira first gained national recognition for his movie set designs, including that for the 1942 film “Reap the Wild Wind, becomes William Pereira first gained national recognition for his movie set designs, including the 1942 film 'Reap the Wild Wind' for the 1942 film “Reap the Wild Wind, The correct antecedent is "movie set designs." There's a change in meaning. He does not get national recognition for the films, he gets it for the set designs. That's why "that" can't be an antecedent for "national recognition."
I hope that makes sense. |
