In addition, the noun to which the opening modifier refers immediately follows the comma - that's necessary.
You can also omit repeating the subject (or a pronoun referring to it) for modifiers beginning with before or after as long as the conditions are met (including what I just typed above). After swimming the English Channel, Gertrude Ederle was very tired. |
