Hi,

I took my GMAT in December and received a 710 on my unofficial score report with a 49 Q and a 39 V (92% overall). Upon researching this score breakdown further, I am realizing there are other people with a 49/39 split who received a 720. Does anyone know why there would be a discrepancy here?

Thanks!

Hi ND2011,

Thanks for writing in. I'm sure it's frustrating but it's documented that this can happen. There are a few different reasons behind it. Check out this thread from Manhattan GMAT, which explains some of the reasons this can happen:

Best of luck!

MY case a little more amazing. I took the GMAT last month and scored 710 ( Quant 49 Verbal 40). My percentiles were Q 86, V 89 and total 92. As I have just passed the 700 threshold, I was satisfied with this score combination. This week, though, in another blog, I read a score combination of Q 49 V39 Total 720. Can somebody explain to me how this guy scored 10 points greater than me, while our quant scores are equal and my verbal score is one point greater than his?

Hi kirub,

Unfortunately there is no easy explanation for this. As I pointed out in the thread above, these inconsistencies do happen. It's important to note that the timeframe you took the test in is important (we don't know when the other person took the test), and also people often just mis-remember their breakdown. Perhaps he got a Quant 48, not 49.

I understand it's frustrating but it's an unfortunate part of the process.

Best of luck with your applications!
